Thea Darlow

Thea has been painting for most of her life and was hugely influenced by her mother, Joan Darlow, a prolific watercolour artist in Zimbabwe.  In October 2010 Thea's watercolours were exhibited at the SASA 104th Annual Exhibition and achieved the required points to take part in the SASA 2011 Merit Exhibition.  In June 2012 she also attained the required points to exhibit at the WSSA (Water Colour Society of South Africa) New Signatures Exhibition.

In 2014 she became a member of Art B in Bellville, Cape Town.  Her work was selected in the top 25 art works at the current 2014 Vuleka Art Exhibition held at the Art B Gallery.  After renewing her membership of SASA in 2014, she took part in the 108th Annual Exhibition.  All three of the paintings she submitted were selected and she was placed in the top 12 point scorers at this exhibition.

The photographs she takes of everyday life are the references for her paintings which are predominantly figurative and still life.  Thea says her most important lessons are observation and the value of drawing correctly.  Her love of manipulating paint on canvas and the 'alchemy' of pigments and water on paper, flowing with their own energy surprises her every time, making her heart sing!
