Mandy Herdien studied at Ruth Prowse School of Art and graduated in 2011. She has been a member of the South African Society of Artists (SASA) since 2007 and has exhibited regularly in the Members, Merit and Annual Exhibitions. She was awarded the Best Drawing at the 2016 Annual Exhibition. She is also a member of Constantiaberg Art Society (CAS). In 2015 she was awarded Best Painting in their Midyear Art Competition.
After many years of teaching academic subjects, she felt the need to explore an avenue where the emphasis was on creativity and to fulfil her dream and passion of making art a career. Acrylics, oils, pastels and mixed media work, serves as a means to capture her energetic painting and drawing style.
She loves the outdoors and travels extensively in the countryside for her inspiration. She uses bold colours and lively brush strokes to create a vivid portrayal of her subject matter. From the beaches, harbours, winelands and mountains to the dusty township roads and city streets, Cape Town has a wealth of inspiration on offer to the discerning eye. This diversity is reflected in Mandy's many approaches as well as subject matter. Of late she loves experimenting with textures as her muse. This bold approach of loose brush work and palette knife usage keeps her work alive and full of vitality.
