Nanna Vorster-Bakkes was born and raised in Pretoria. She obtained her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, opened a private practice and specialized in forensic work and the brain injured child.
In 2001 she and her family (her husband and two children) moved to Paarl. To cover the empty walls of her new house, she started painting. An article in Rooi Rose and a TV interview on her work put her on the artist map.
Being a psychologist for twenty years, her inspiration stems from people, their interpersonal relationships, their beliefs, expectations and different ways of living.
She works in different mediums but enjoys acrylic paints and charcoal. Her paintings reflect a sensitive hand and subtle pallet of a fugato touch.
Her work can be viewed at different galleries in South Africa as well as Norfolk England and Germany.
