Shany was born in Riversdale in the Western Cape in 1958. After studying ceramics part-time from 1982 to 1985, creating ceramic sculptures, she studied life drawing and painting at Ruth Prowse School of Art from 1990 to 1992. Since then she started developing her own technique in oil painting and produced work exhibited at a variety of group exhibitions.
She succeeds in communicating the multi layered emotions, ideas and modern concepts with a classical approach to portraiture and captures these ideas with a meticulous attention to detail and simplicity. Her subtle symbolism represents very realistic emotions and concepts of the modern state of mind. These paintings represent a realization of true feelings, and symbolism plays a very important part in her paintings.
In February 2000 she participated with eleven other artists in an art exhibition "A Celebration of Art and Technology" in aid of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund sponsored by Hewlett Packard.
Her works are included in private collections in South Africa, London, Luxemburg, Cayman Islands and America.
